The Columbia River Economic Development Council Announces the Arrival of SVI Electronics to Vancouver

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — JANUARY 21, 2025

Vancouver, WA — The Columbia River Economic Development Council (CREDC) officially announces the arrival of SVI Electronics, a Thailand-based electronics manufacturing company, to Vancouver, in partnership with site selector JLL, Capacity Commercial, and the Washington State Department of Commerce.

SVI electronics has leased 46,946 square feet at the Vancouver Innovation Center in east Vancouver and anticipates a 100-person workforce in its initial phase of operation.

SVI Electronics Public Limited Company is a global leader in Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS). With operations in Southeast Asia, Europe, and the USA, SVI specializes in Industrial Electronics, telecommunications components, electronic assemblies, automotive solutions & e-mobility, and medical technologies.

CREDC supported SVI’s evaluation and selection of Vancouver as its first production base in the United States through providing technical and comparative analysis to inform the company’s decision-making, including referrals to the regional workforce board, Workforce SW Washington.

“We are pleased to welcome SVI Electronics to Southwest Washington,” said Jennifer Baker, President and CEO of CREDC. “Attraction of foreign direct investment is a key driver of economic growth, in alignment with the community goal of growing the business base.”

“SVI’s decision to expand in Vancouver is a result of a combination of site readiness and the skilled regional workforce,” said Patrick Loughran Macdonald, Chief Operating Officer at SVI Electronics.   “This move enables us to expand manufacturing facilities closer to end-product customers in the U.S. market.”

“Growing the industry sector is a priority for Washington State,” said Dr. Joseph Williams, ICT Sector Lead for Washington State Department of Commerce. “This move is important for the microelectronics industry and our comparative regional advantage.”

“Successfully landing the SVI project is the culmination of community partners working together to support SVI in their U.S. expansion,” said Clint Hendricks, Vice President of Business Development at CREDC.

Computers and electronics exports from the region totaled $13 billion in 2022. According to Greater Portland Inc, 359 establishments employ 41,400 employees in the region. With 15 times the national concentration of computers and electronics talent, the PNW offers a skilled workforce to expansion-focused companies.

CREDC looks forward to supporting SVI’s continued growth in SW Washington and the positive impact it has on the region’s economic landscape.
